CLUB FISHING TRIP - Schedule for April 25th, 2010

by admin on Apr.03, 2010, under Uncategorized

Everyone, the SPORT FISHING CLUB of CEBU will be having its next Fishing Outing in Mactan this coming April 25th. This is three days after the new moon so we expect the fishing to be excellent. Our recent charter have been pulling in some fantastic catches, so we are very hopefuly for a continued result.

This is a great opportunity for those of you interested in trying fishing in the open waters of Mactan and Cebu for a really low price! For only P910/person, you can take part in a fun filled fishing trip and have a chance at winning the P1,000 Gift Certificate raffled off on every monthly club fishing trip!

You would only need to bring your own meals (snacks and drinks) and your own fishing tackle. The club will provide the boat, bait and the assistance of the Fishing Guide to help us catch some nice fish! If you do not have your own fishing gear let us (Cebu Sport Fishing or TCE Tackles) know and we will see if we can help you out.

So don’t forget to visit TCE Tackles in Mandaue (near the old bridge and down the street from Monark CAT, Mandaue side) to secure your seat.

Back Home In The Good Ole USA

by admin on Oct.31, 2009, under Uncategorized

I'm currently in Savannah, Georgia for a few weeks.

I'm currently in Savannah, Georgia for a few weeks.

I left the Philippines earlier within the week and flew back to the United States for a family emergency.

I just wanted to take some time to point out a few things I’ve noticed since coming back (just comparing Phil to USA)…

1. Everything is much more expensive in the United States. Especially, for a necessity such as food. This is definately apparent in all the fast food restaurants.

For example, I love eating at Taco Bell and for the $6 I paid for a Combo Meal #6 (Mexican Pizza, Two Tacos and a large drink) you could feed 4 people at a local Filipino Grill.

2. There are so many fat people in the United States! Granted, I’m large, I no longer feel like I’m sticking out like a sore thumb.

Something I also wanted to mention…why in the heck to all the really chunky thighed women here are infatuated with SPANDEX!?!

3. Freeways are just plain wonderful. It feels so nice to be able to drive a car over 35mph.

4. Best Buy just flat out rules! This is a heaven of all heavens in my personal opinion. I purchased a new Toshiba NB205 Netbook yesterday and got it at a great price!

5. STEAKS!!! I love eating steaks.

That’s all for now…hopefully I will have a bit more time to report on some other differences I’ve come to notice since I’ve been back in  the United States.

Counting the Days…weeks….minutes….seconds.

by admin on Aug.18, 2009, under Uncategorized

Two more months…for I will be a free spirit once again!Countdown to Freedom

May I once again roam the fields of indescretion and be at liberty to over-indulge in my vices as I please. No longer will I be confined or chained to a meager existance, without the ability to enjoy life  and liberty.

Only a short time till I have the independence to break the manacle holding me back from the pleasures I so long for.

Yes, one day very soon I will be able to be with whom I want, as many as I want, for as long as I want.

Rain in the Philippines

by admin on Jun.15, 2009, under Uncategorized

_44059926_floods4_ap_gallRain as in a down pour, not the Korean Super Star.

We’re heading into the rainy season for the Philippines, it been raining almost everyday here in Cebu for the past three and a half weeks. Although, you know what rain means for the average sports angler. No need for a bath when you get home from a days worth of fishng.

Us diehard fishermen never let the rain bother us. Although, I’ve learned one thing from being inthe Philippines. You don’t joke around about the weather in the South Pacific.

Take for instance two weeks  ago in Siargao. Trolling a bright summers day and headed towards the northern tip of the Island. The water was calm as could be trolling the waters just 50-100 meters from shore. Next thing we knew we were navigating through 1.5 meter sizes swells, it started down pouring and was windy as hell bringing up some major chop. Was a fun ride on the little pump boat.

Now thinking about it, what if that happened were we out at sea? Like 5km or more? Would I still have the same ‘happy-go-lucky’ attitude? Probably not.  I was more intent on thinking about this as we are planning a trip back to Siargoa in the month of October, a month before the big 5-6 meter swells come in. This time we’ll be fishing for tuna at night and about 2-hours ride (I estimate 10-15 kilometers from shore).

Yikes…I can imagine me and the boatman being lost at sea. No food, out of water. Actually, thinking about it, I would feel bad for the boatman because given enough time, I’d probably have to eat the poor fellow.

Fishing in Catmon

by admin on May.18, 2009, under Uncategorized

By the way…I forgot to mention that Little Rob and I went out to Catmon this past Saturday.

I was having another bout with gout so my knee was swollen up to the size of a small melon, but I couldn’t pass up a fishing expedition to a new area. So I loaded up on four ibuprofen to combat the swelling and pain, then drove out to meet Robert in Liloan.

We arrived in Catmon around 6AM and met up with Randy who was kind enough to let us use his boat. Unfortunately, the boat was no bigger than a canoe and only had room for two bodies. I myself am as big as three filipino’s, so Little Robert was kind enough to allow me to use it while he secured his own craft.

The waves were small and the fishing payaw’s were close. Although, a big guy on a little boat meant I had to worry about falling in. Plus the fact that I only had 1-hours worth of rest the night before and no room to spread out and take a nap while waiting for the fish to bite  just increased the odds of me falling asleep and taking a dip in the cold ocean. Since I didn’t feel like taking another bath, I started munching on a bag of greasy chicharon (pork rinds) and guzzling vast amounts of water to keep me awake.

Around noon time I had only caught a small mamsa. By then the effects of the medicine combined with the tossing of the small boat in the ocean and the greasy chicharon churning in my belly made me feel terrible. So I called it a day.

The place seems to have some potential for trolling but will have to plan that trip for another weekend when I’m feeling a bit better.
